Over thirty years ago, the safety of elevator passengers entered a whole new era when light curtain technology was introduced to door equipment. This technology meant that for the first time door re-opening devices could work without contact being made with the elevator passenger.

So if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? Well, nearly. TL Jones has added a new range of infra-red light curtains to its product platform, providing both low and highresolution infrared protection for all types of elevators. The M Series is designed for OEM elevator manufacturers and consists of a modular family of competitively priced high performance units that are ideal for any building requirement.
So what’s new? The most obvious difference is its size. Available in two profiles (M and SP) that measure 12mm (½”) in depth ensure that these units will fit into almost any installation. The SP unit – the smaller of the two – is specifically designed for installations where space is at a premium, and there are sight guards available in various sizes that will effectively widen the depth of the M profile if required. Designed for fast installation in the field, the M Series means big savings on technician time and branch inventories. This, along with its ease of installation means that the M Series is ideal for modernization projects, as the light curtains can be installed easily into existing elevators.
Another benefit is that the two profiles can work together as a modular system, allowing a ‘mix and match’ configuration, suitable for both side opening and centre opening doors, or a dynamic or static installation. There is also a 2-in-1 solution available, where the same infrared technology is combined within a mechanical safety shoe profile created to suit specific manufacturer’s requirements.
The M Series products are the perfect light curtain for adaptation to the rapidly growing residential elevator market due to its small profile and like all MICROSCANTM light curtains it has its own on-board electronics and it doesn’t need a separate power supply or controller. There are, however, several power supply options available, ideal for those residential projects.
Finally, as with all TL Jones products, the M Series is rated IP65 and NEMA 4 for water and dust resistance, and exceed the strict testing of EN81-70 and GB7588-2003, so you know that even small objects will be detected.
